open invitation no. 4: inside stories

Characters have an inside story. Tell yours.

All of us always have two stories happening — the one that is happening on the outside and the one that is happening on the inside. It is natural to tell the outside story — those events that are happening around us — when we write the stories of our lives.

But, let’s not forget the rest of the story…the inside story — the thoughts and feelings that are happening inside our heads and hearts.

Write a small moment from your life and make sure to tell both the outside story and the inside story. Tell the story of your thoughts and feelings as the events unfold.

Open your blog and write a post. It doesn’t have to be a scene from your life, it can be a poem or a photo of page in your notebook. Just write!

    1. Okay Ramona , here’s my comment that didn’t post. I love your ambitious plan to write 52 pieces for this year. I’m planning to read each one and to wish you a welcome to the new member of your family… I know how important your family is to you… WELCOME!!!!

    1. Hi Julie, For some reason I couldn’t write a comment on your blog so I’m writing it here … I love your post — most especially your realization and last paragraph!

“Sometimes I forget what a gift it is to create anything, especially with your favorite people. I love cooking, and love leads to joy, which can, when you’re lucky, lead to dancing.”

So true! You may have inspired my next post. For now you have inspired me.

      thanks!

  1. I’m late too! But I’m new and not even sure I’m responding to this invitation correctly–?
Ahhhh anyway: Here’s a quick story about a quarantine writing assignment and a $10 bet.

      1. Today must be the day for not being able to comment directly on people’s blogs. But no worries, the important thing is I got to read what you wrote … which was lovely! Such great memories … and connection to your mom 🙂

Lilacs have such a delicious smell.
