open invitation no. 32: write off of a photograph

Look at the background.

We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.—Ralph Hattersley

Use a photograph to inspire your writing. Bypass the foreground and look to the background. What do you notice? What didn’t you see before? What is unexpected? Allow the background to guide your writing.

*Remember, you don’t have to accept this invitation…but I do hope you will accept the invitation to write. Sharing our stories is magical.

    1. Oh Fran – You made me cry! What an amazing tribute to Alex Trebek! The final piece – the back cover of his book – I need to remember every day – I believe in the will to live. I believe in the power of positivity. I believe in optimism. I believe in hope.

      SO POWERFUL! Thank you!

  1. This has inspired me to write a poem about a photo I took while walking in the park. I added your info to my post so the rest of the world can find you. 🙂

    1. Ramona – I want to sit in a sun filled kitchen with a cup of steaming tea in my hands and listen to Estelle and Lillian. I have similar memories of my mother and her best friend – sister-in-law – Vivian and Josephine. And YES to aprons! Funny that I have none a home, but I have a collection at school that I wear when I cook with the kids. I’m going to have to go out a buy one just for HOME. Thank you!

    1. You always fill me with MORE BOOKS to read! How is that possible? AND now I saw that you and Joe have a podcast. As soon as I figure out how to connect – I’m joining you! What a treat! THANK YOU!

    1. SO much here is lovely, honest, and you! YOU ARE HUMAN SUNSHINE! Loved the lines: This isn’t a little sprint. This isn’t an easy workout. This is an endurance event. And no matter how fantabulous I am, as with every endurance event there is preparation, execution, and recovery. – That’s how I need to remember what LIFE is. Thank you, Molly, for all you are and do. I know my race is easier with you as my friend. RING A BELL!!!!
